What Is Airsoft?

A complete beginner's guide to airsoft — the honesty-based team sport that anyone can enjoy. No experience or own equipment needed.

What Is Airsoft?

Airsoft is a team sport in which players use replica firearms to fire small plastic BBs (6 mm diameter). The game is played in teams with the goal of eliminating opponents, capturing objectives or completing mission scenarios — depending on the game type. What makes airsoft truly unique is that it is an honesty-based sport: there are no automatic hit detection systems. Every player is expected to acknowledge their hit and call themselves out. This culture of fairness and sportsmanship is the foundation of the airsoft community.

Unlike many other sports, airsoft welcomes players of all backgrounds, fitness levels and ages. Beginners and experienced players can participate in the same event — our game masters balance the groups and tailor the scenarios to make the experience enjoyable for everyone. How Does Airsoft Work?

A typical airsoft game session begins with an equipment check and safety briefing by the game master. All participants put on their protective gear — most importantly, a full-face protective mask that is mandatory throughout the game. Players then divide into teams and head to the field for the first mission.

Missions vary — common formats include Team Deathmatch (two teams trying to eliminate each other), Capture the Flag, Objective-based missions and VIP escort scenarios. Each format requires different tactics, communication and team organisation, keeping the gameplay fresh and engaging throughout the session.

A hit is registered when a BB strikes any part of the player's body or gear. The player acknowledges the hit, raises their hand or marker, and walks to the respawn point. The game continues until the mission objective is completed or the time limit is reached.

Is Airsoft Safe?

When played with proper equipment and by the rules, airsoft is a safe activity. The key safety elements are:

  • Mandatory protective mask — A full-face mask is required at all times on the field. It protects the eyes and face from BB impacts.
  • Joule limits — All replicas used in our events comply with Naissaare Airsoft safety joule limits, which control the energy of the BBs fired.
  • Safe zone rules — Replicas must be on safe and barrel-covered when outside the game area.
  • Game master oversight — Our game masters monitor all games and can stop play immediately if needed.

Children aged 13 and above are welcome to participate. Younger children may also take part with a parent or guardian's consent and direct supervision.

What Do I Need to Bring?

When attending one of our events, you do not need to bring any equipment. We provide full rental gear for all participants: replica airsoft firearm, protective face mask, tactical vest and BBs. All you need is comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and footwear suitable for outdoor activity.

If you are an experienced player with your own equipment, you are welcome to use it — provided it passes the joule check at the start of the event.

Why Try Airsoft?

Airsoft offers something that few other sports can match: a genuine combination of physical activity, strategic thinking and social experience. It develops teamwork, communication, quick decision-making and physical fitness in a way that is genuinely engaging and fun. Many participants come for the first time just for the experience and return regularly because of the community and the unique thrill of the game.

Whether you are looking for a one-off experience, a regular sport or a way to spend a memorable day with friends or colleagues, airsoft has something to offer. Visit our services page to see how we can organise the perfect airsoft event for you.
